Volunteer moms or dads from the Parish community sit in the hallway during class time to provide assistance to any Catechist, any student, and to ensure safety for all. These volunteers work on a rotating schedule. Their duties include: making phone calls, collecting attendance folders, stepping into a classroom if the Catechist is called out, substituting in a class for a Catechist who cannot make the class, monitoring a student who leaves the classroom and monitoring the use of the elevator. In addition the hall monitor/class mom or dad will contact the Director when first aid is needed or in an emergency. These volunteers also help during class parties by supplying items and serving the children, and they assist in church during confession.
Volunteer moms or dads assist at arrival and departure times. They ensure that all cars follow the drop off/pick up procedure. They are crucial to the safety of all during this critical time each week.
Moms or dads from the parish community work with the children during Family Mass on Saturdays at 5:00PM. These volunteers assist in reading the Liturgy of the Word for Children and they also help to maintain safety and order in the Sacristy during this part of the Mass. They work on a rotating schedule and may help a child who needs the bathroom or a child who may have to return to their parent earlier than the rest. They also contribute to the teaching discussion related to the readings. All volunteers are mandated to take part in Virtus: Protecting God’s Children, a program which provides training in the prevention, recognition and reporting of child abuse. All volunteers are also required to supply information for a background check.
